I am an East Midlands freelance journalist with more than 30 years experience of writing for newspapers and magazines and I am a holder of the NCTJ Proficiency Certificate.

Career to date:

Freelance journalist providing communications services since 2010

Head of Information and Publications for Nottinghamshire Police 2008 – 2010  (I was in charge of an internal and external newspaper, corporate publications, the force website and intranet).Val Culley

Marketing and Public Relations Officer for Nottinghamshire Police 2002 -2008  (I wrote newsletters, leaflets and press releases and produced marketing campaigns to promote Nottinghamshire Police in a positive way.)

Freelance journalist between 1984 and 2002  (I worked for a range of clients, including television companies, provincial newspapers and local authorities, writing press releases, features, newspapers and tourism brochures. I also worked as a casual sub editor for the Sun and the Mirror.)

Publications Manager for British Gas PR department 1981 -1984  (I brought out a monthly internal newspaper and corporate publications.)

Journalist with the Morning Telegraph newspaper in Sheffield 1977 – 1981  (I started as a news reporter, then trained to be a sub-editor and then became a sports writer/sports sub-editor.)

Journalist with the Nottingham Evening Post 1973 -1977   (I trained as a journalist with the Nottingham Evening Post, obtaining my NCTJ Proficiency Certificate in 1976.)
